It’s a Calling – Author Extra

“Freak weather conditions heralded the summer solstice in Northern Scotland. Despite extensive property damage, floods and blocked roads only one life was lost. Doctor Jack Darling was out walking and was caught in a freak electrical storm on exposed ground…”

“They never found the body, you know, just a pair of charred boots and his backpack.” The words rang loud in the abrupt silence as the radio was snapped off.

“Hush your noise, Betty. His bairns are still here somewhere. You don’t want to be filling their heads with nonsense.”

“It’s no nonsense, Angus, and you know it!”

“Maybe so, but they’ll not be needing to hear it.”

“That must have been some bolt of lightning though… to burn the old doctor up and split the Stone like it did.”

“Hush your noise, the bairns are coming!”

“Lovely service, Mr. Darling, Miss Darling. I’m sure your Da’d be proud.”

“Thank you, Mrs. MacKay. If we could have our bill, please? We’re hoping to catch the two o’clock ferry back to the mainland.”
